Monasterevin Blueway Kayaking Club (MBKC) was established in 2019 by a group of paddlers in the town. The club was initially founded and has been supported throughout it’s early life by Kildare Sports Partnership.
The club is based at the Kildare Sports Partnership water sports hub at Moore’s Lock, Monasterevin with the kind support of Waterways Ireland.
The club is overseen by a democratically elected committee consisting of a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Safety Officer, Training Officer, Equipment Officer and Children’s Officer as well as general members. This committee is elected every year at the AGM and any member is welcome to put themselves forward to be a member of the committee or as an officer.
MBKC is a not-for‐profit organisation. Members’ fees, subscriptions, charges for club outings, club sessions and club introductory sessions etc are gathered for the purposes of meeting the club’s costs. Committee members work to progress the club on a voluntary basis.
The club is affiliated to Canoeing Ireland and members should also be familiar with their guidance and literature as appropriate. (available at www.canoe.ie)

New Membership

As kayaking is a water sport with some inherent risk, we have to be careful about taking on new members who have no experience – we have to have instructors available to work with new members to develop a safe set of skills to take part in the sport. At the moment we don’t have enough instructors so we are restricted in opening up our club to new members with no experience. We can take applications from people who have the Canoeing Ireland level 2 kayaking skills qualification though, as this allows paddlers at level 2 to get out on the water together without requiring an instructor to be present. We do want to run level 2 kayaking skills courses ourselves to allow new members join, and are currently in planning to have one later in 2024, so please keep an eye on our Eventbrite page and our social media for information on that!
